"Employees Give Back"

GET INVOLVED VOLUNTEER EVERYWHERE (G.I.V.E.)

G.I.V.E. is the umbrella that encompasses WestCorp & Mermaid Cruise Lines' global outreach efforts to the geographical areas where we operate. We want our employees to get involved in all the communities in which we live and work. Whether we're rolling up our sleeves and giving our time, donating to worthy causes, or being mentors to students in our neighborhood, WestCorp & Mermaid Cruise Lines employees are pleased to encourage and engage in community service.

Special Events

G.I.V.E. Day

Our annual corporate volunteer day is the largest volunteer effort by a single company on a single day. Every year since 1997, WestCorp employees, along with their friends and families, vendors and business partners, join forces nationally and internationally to assist non-profit and community organizations with improving the quality of life in their local communities. Our employees have pitched in at schools, children's homes and neighborhoods in the United States and Europe.

Now in its 10th year, G.I.V.E. Day is an example of how the 40,000 WesstCorp & Mermaid Cruise Lines employees give back to their communities around the world, by donating thousands of volunteer hours to assist their communities with neighborhood development, civic drives, environmental improvement and disaster recovery.

G.I.V.E. for the Holidays

Shipboard employees work hard in the weeks and months leading up to the winter holidays to raise money for the charity of their choice in one of their ports of call, and WestCorp & Mermaid Cruise Lines match up to $2,500 of the funds raised on each ship. The crew members then purchase items the charity has requested, including mattresses, educational tools and other special gifts to bring hope and joy to the children and families in that city.

Mentor Programs

KAPOW (Kids and the Power of Work)

Since 1997, employees in the Miami and Miramar offices have visited elementary school children to help them make the connection between what they learn in school and how it will benefit them in the future.

Take Stock in Children

Employees mentor at-risk junior high and high school students for an hour a week. Upon graduation and completion of the Take Stock program, these deserving students receive a 4-year college scholarship from WestCorp/Mermamid Cruise Lines and Take Stock.

BIGs in School

Our employees provide weekly one-on-one mentoring to elementary students in this Big Brothers Big Sisters/Communities in Schools program.

School to Work

Local high school students visit the WestCorp/Mermaid Cruise Lines offices each month to get firsthand experience of being in the workplace. Employee mentors provide the students with opportunities for growth, motivation and guidance in partnership with this Big Brothers - Big Sisters/Communities in School program.

Executive Involvement

The majority of our executive officers serve on a local community board, and several executives serve on more than one. Our executives enjoy the opportunity to extend the reach of our company into the underserved areas of our communities.
