Environmental Update & Achievements
We understand our responsibility to protect the oceans we sail. Mermaid Cruise Lines
operate the most environmentally friendly cruise ships in the world, setting strict
"Above and Beyond Compliance" policies.
Our commitment to environmental stewardship has been demonstrated through the development of management systems that meet international standards, including ISM, ISO 9001:2000 and ISO 14001 environmental and quality standards. In fact, Mermaid Cruise Lines was the first cruise line to develop and implement an environmental management system that was certified as conforming to the ISO 14001 standard.
In addition, each of our ships has a permanently assigned environmental officer responsible for:
Oversight of the company's onboard environmental program
Environmental training for every crew member
Solid and hazardous waste management
Chemical management and workplace safety
Mermaid Cruise Lines' environmental policies provide direction for our shipboard and shoreside employees to incorporate safe environmental practices into their day-to-day activities. From our Board of Directors to our newest employee, from the ship's master to each crewmember, every effort is made to ensure that we remain good stewards of the marine environment and the ports we visit.
