The climate in Tanzania varies from tropical along the coast and islands to temperate in the highlands. The tropical climate exhibits high temperatures and humidity. Average daytime temperature ranges from 73 - 81 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the year. Annual rainfall is more than 40 inches. On the central plateau it is much drier where the annual rainfall is 10 inches.
On peaks above 5,000 feet, there is a semi-temperate climate with permanent snow on the highest peaks.

August to October and January to March for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro.
Tanzania is a year-round birding destination.
Tanzania offers excellent game viewing throughout the year, as not all animals migrate and are year-round residents.
Summer is December through March.
Winter is March through May.
It is tropical and humid on the Tanzania coastline year-round.
March through May is the rainy season.
The temperature may drop well below freezing on Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru from March through May (year-round on the summit).
It can be very cold inland during the winter period.
